Go way back with old snap shots of websites on the internet:
Ever want to see your site 5 years ago with its old design? Look at
almost any website at various dates back in history with the way back
machine. This can be used to also look at competition to see what they did
previously on their websites.

Tired of getting newsgroup incomplete files, PAR2 it:
A lot of newsgroup posters now will include PAR2 in their uploads. So if
you find some of the files missing or even some of the PAR2 files
missing you can still most of the time recover the application. PAR2 is
a data verification and repair utility, it can recover completely
missing files and re-generate them. This tool is key to getting files
that are usually missing from newsgroup posting.

Roll your own spam filter with DNS blacklists:
Most mail applications will have the ability to incorporate DNS black
lists into your client. Just adding these can cut down on over 80% of all
your spam, leaving a small portion to actually run through some bayesian
filter application. Simply get your hands on some good lists and add them
in. Keep in mind these lists can often blacklist a lot of people that
should not be blacklisted. So you will need to use the trial and error
method as you add them into your final list. Here are some lists to get
your hands dirty:

Use PGPdisk but do not want to pay $59 anymore?
First PGPdisk is an excellent application and encrypts directories on
your hard drive so that if your computer/laptop gets stolen nobody will
be able to get the data off that portion of the hard drive.
But you are tied of paying for it now? Well first you can get older
versions of PGPdisk, such as 6.02i which are still freeware.
Basically starting with version 6.5 and higher you have to pay for it.
Grab the older copies here:
http://www.pgpi.org/products/pgpdisk
A new open source version is now out as well which some seem to like
better than PGPdisk. Best of all its also free:
http://www.truecrypt.org
If you can not do without the retail copy, here you go:
http://www.pgp.com
