Dont use WEP, MAC filtering and more for WIFI security:
With new hacker tools available, it has rendered many WIFI security
methods useless. These include the following:
* WEP (Wireless Encryption Protocol). New hacker tools now can crack WEP
keys in a matter of minutes. This is the case even with minimal network
traffic, their tools now generate traffic to make the process go faster.
* MAC address filtering. MAC addresses are in the clear so it is just a
matter of sniffing out MACs that work and the hacker re-configure to your
MAC. This takes seconds to get passed.
* LEAP authentication and EAP-FAST. LEAP is easily cracked with crackLEAP
and thus Cisco came out with EAP-FAST to combat it. Unfortunately
EAP-FAST is still easy to overcome. These protocols are also proprietary
and not in most access points.
* SSID hiding, disabling SSID broadcasting. This only shuts down 1 of 5
total SSID broadcasts: SSID beaconing. There are still 4 other SSID
broadcasts including: probe requests, probe responses, association
requests and re-association requests.
What to do then? Buy an access point that supports WPA TKIP mode at a
minimum but preferably WPA AES capable or WPA2 certified devices.

ICMP Tunnel out of networks using PingTunnel:
You are staying on a network that may restrict TCP or UDP traffic, however
they allow you to ping machines on the net. Grab a copy of PingTunnel to
allow you to proxy your web traffic and other traffic across the ICMP
protocol. This can be very handy but keep in mind that you need the proxy
setup in advance since you wont be able to setup the proxy if you are
already on the restricted network.
